Falls among adults aged 65 and older are common, costly, and preventable. One in four adults aged 65 and older report falling each year. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), "Falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries among older adults." At Healthy Aging Association, we strive to overcome these critical challenges associated with falls that can lead to fatal and nonfatal injuries among older adults. By championing proactive prevention, strength, and balance programs, we empower seniors to maintain their independence, mobility, and safety.
Making a Difference and Changing Lives
'Go Green for Seniors' Green Bag Program & Nutrition Education
According to the Age Friendly Stanislaus Action Plan, “Food security is the state of having access to enough safe and nutritious food to meet dietary needs. It ensures that people can live an active and healthy life. Food needs to be available, accessible, and affordable.” According to the report, “The Challenges of California’s Aging Population, 16.3% of Californians over age 60 are food insecure, and more than 1 in 5 low-income Californians over age 65 cannot afford to put food on the table.
Healthy Aging Association runs the Green Bag Program to help adults aged 60 and older who have low incomes and face food insecurity. Once a month, the program gives each person a 10-pound bag of fresh fruits and vegetables. Before getting the food, participants learn about healthy eating and ways to utilize the produce they are receiving. This helps older adults get the food they need and learn how to stay healthy.
